Mental Health Services

Psychotherapy (Talk Therapy Services)

We offer psychotherapy services (i.e., “talk therapy”), in both English and French to adolescents and adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, relationship problems, and/or difficulties adjusting to challenges or stresses in life.

Psychotherapy often involves identifying unhelpful thoughts, emotions and behaviours that may be preventing one from moving forward and developing healthier, more adaptive ways of coping. Our approach to therapy is warm, respectful and non-judgmental. We focus on developing a safe and comfortable environment for you to begin to explore difficult thoughts and emotions, learn new coping strategies, and ultimately, feel better.

We offer psychotherapy services for a range of personal difficulties, life transitions and/or mental health concerns. In particular, our clinic offers psychotherapy services for:

Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety can feel overwhelming, often impacting your ability to enjoy daily activities while leaving you caught in a cycle of worry and stress.

At Helix Psychological Services, we offer anxiety treatment that is focused on helping individuals better understand and manage their anxiety symptoms. Whether you are struggling with persistent feelings of worry, panic attacks, or social anxiety, our team is able to support you with evidence-based treatment strategies that work.

Our approach to anxiety treatment is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); a proven method for identifying and changing negative thought patterns that may be fueling your symptoms. In our work together, we will uncover the specific triggers that contribute to your anxiety and teach you practical tools to help you respond differently. The goal is to not only help you manage anxiety in the short-term but also to promote long-term resilience. In addition to CBT techniques, our therapists offer other therapeutic modalities (i.e., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), polyvagal theory and Somatic Experiencing, etc.) to target your specific anxiety symptoms.

We understand that seeking help for anxiety can be challenging, but our experienced clinicians are committed to making the process as comfortable as possible.

Anxiety doesn’t have to define your life. With effective anxiety treatment, you can break free from excessive worry and move towards a calmer, more balanced, way of living.

Depression Treatment

When you’re depressed, it can feel like everything is weighing you down.

Depression can impact your ability to experience joy and/or pleasure, disrupt your sleep and eating patterns, and negatively affect your sense of self-worth. When struggling with symptoms of depression, it is common to feel exhausted and to experience thoughts of hopelessness. It can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Our team understands how complex and isolating depression can be. That’s why we offer depression treatments to reduce your symptoms and help you find a new sense of meaning and fulfillment in life.

Our approach to depression treatment is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT); an evidence-based treatment approach that is focused on restructuring negative thought patterns contributing to feelings of worthlessness, self-criticism, and sadness. By working closely with our therapists, you will learn how to effectively challenge unhelpful thoughts, enhance self-compassion, and re-engage in activities that provide a sense of pleasure and accomplishment. In addition to CBT, our team members offer other evidence-based depression treatments (i.e., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), self-compassion therapy, schema therapy, etc.) that are individually tailored to meet your unique needs.

Our goal is not just symptom relief but a broader sense of healing that encompasses both mind and body. You don’t have to cope with symptoms of depression alone. We aim to provide you with the tools you need to feel better and lead a more fulfilling, balanced life.

Trauma Therapy

Traumatic experiences can create significant disruption to one’s emotional, physical and psychological well-being. It is common to struggle with making sense of your experiences as trauma often impacts your sense of safety, trust and self-esteem. It can also produce other distressing symptoms, such as hypervigilance or feeling on edge, flashbacks, nightmares and/or sleep difficulties, and problems with concentration.

At Helix Psychological Services, we offer specialized trauma therapy services designed to help you heal from trauma-related symptoms, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Our approach is rooted in evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE). These treatments aim to enhance your understanding of trauma-related symptoms while targeting unhelpful thoughts, emotions and behaviours that may be preventing you from moving forward. Our team members additionally integrate elements of Somatic Experiencing (SE) to help you understand how trauma is stored in the body and may be contributing to difficult emotional and/or physical symptoms.

Our team understands that working through traumatic experiences is not easy and takes a lot of courage. We are particularly mindful to pace treatment according to your comfort level and stage of readiness. Our goal is to empower you with the tools you need to reclaim your life and enhance a sense of safety and well-being in both your mind and body.
