Dr. Ioanna Kokozaki has worked with adults experiencing a variety of mental health concerns and life stressors in the course of her training and clinical experience. She has developed expertise in assessing and treating problems related to mood, (e.g., depression, grief and loss), anxiety (e.g., generalized anxiety), trauma and/or posttraumatic stress disorder, interpersonal difficulties, stress management, and self-esteem and/or self-growth. In addition, Dr. Kokozaki provides neuropsychological assessments as well as forensic/correctional assessments for a variety of concerns (i.e., clarifying diagnosis, risk of general, violent and/or sexual recidivism, psychopathy, and/or malingering).

As a therapist, Dr. Kokozaki’s style is warm, accepting and collaborative. She aims to provide a comfortable, safe space for clients to share their thoughts and feelings and to explore ways to manage or overcome their challenges. She gives particular importance to developing a trusting therapeutic alliance and to understanding clients’ individual needs and concerns. She is flexible in her approach to treatment and typically integrates elements of different evidence-based psychotherapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Schema Therapy.

Prior to transitioning to full-time private practice, Dr. Kokozaki was employed as a psychologist in the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program as well as the Integrated Forensic Program of the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (ROMHC). Previous to that, she provided psychological services to inpatients at the Forensic Treatment Unit of the Brockville Mental Health Services (BMHC). She has also completed assessments with older adults at Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital as well as in the context of pharmaceutical clinical trials. 

Dr. Kokozaki completed her B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences and her B.A. in Psychology at the University of Ottawa. She later received her Psy.D. in Clinical Neuropsychology from the Université du Québec en Outaouais in 2017. Dr. Kokozaki is registered for autonomous practice with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) and is authorized to provide services to adults and older adults in the areas of clinical neuropsychology, forensic/correctional psychology and clinical psychology. She is also registered with the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ). Dr. Kokozaki is fluent in English and French and offers services in both languages.

Dr. Jennifer Newman’s clinical training and experience has focused on the provision of evidence-based treatment and assessment of adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, interpersonal difficulties and life challenges.

She has particular interest and expertise in the assessment and treatment of problems related to mood (e.g., depression, bipolar disorder, grief and loss), anxiety (e.g., social anxiety, generalized anxiety, health anxiety, panic), trauma and/or posttraumatic stress disorder, relationship and/or interpersonal difficulties, stress management, and self-esteem/identity development. In addition, Dr. Newman regularly completes forensic/correctional assessments to clarify concerns related to diagnosis, risk of general, violent and/or sexual recidivism, psychopathy, and/or malingering.

In therapy, Dr. Newman focuses on building a warm relationship with clients, while creating a safe, comfortable and non-judgmental environment to explore distressing thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Her therapeutic approach is often integrative and draws on elements of a number of evidence-based psychotherapies (e.g., Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), and Polyvagal Theory) in order to best address her clients’ unique needs and goals for treatment.

Prior to transitioning to full-time private practice, Dr. Newman was employed as a psychologist at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (ROMHC) for several years and worked in the following programs: the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program, the Integrated Forensic Program, and the Mood and Anxiety Disorders program. She has also provided clinical services to clients in the Forensic Treatment Unit at the Brockville Mental Health Centre (BMHC), the Forensic Inpatient Service at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), and St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, Ontario.

Dr. Newman received her B.A. (2010) in Psychology and Sociology from Wilfrid Laurier University and earned both her M.A. (2012) and Ph.D. (2016) in Clinical Psychology from Ryerson University. In 2017, Dr. Newman became registered as an autonomous psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO). Dr. Newman is authorized by the CPBAO to provide psychological services to adult clients in the domains of forensic/correctional, counselling and clinical psychology.

Through her training and clinical experience, Dr. Marie-Eve Turpin has developed an integrative approach to the assessment and treatment of adults experiencing mental health issues or challenges. Her expertise is in areas related to anxiety (social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, worries), obsessive-compulsive disorder, addiction and/or substance use disorders, psychosis and schizophrenia spectrum disorders, aggression/anger, behavioural disorders and impulsivity, emotion regulation, attachment issues and stress management.  

In therapy, Dr. Turpin emphasizes the development of a secure therapeutic relationship in order to create a safe environment to disclose problems and difficulties. With her calm attitude often marked by humour, she helps clients feel comfortable and at ease. She uses an integrated therapeutic approach to understand her clients’ needs and to develop individualized treatment plans. She bases all her interventions on evidence-based psychotherapies [(i.e., Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Inference-Based Therapy (IBT)].

In addition to her work in private practice, Dr. Turpin is currently employed as a psychologist in the forensic unit and outpatient program at Pierre-Janet Hospital (CISSSO). Prior to this, she worked in the Integrated Forensic Program and the Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Program at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (ROMHC). She was also previously employed in the Borderline Personality Disorder Clinic at Pierre-Janet Hospital and has worked with sexual offenders at the Centre d’intervention en abus sexuels pour la famille (CIASF).

With regard to her educational background, Dr. Turpin completed her Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc) in Psychology at the Université du Québec en Outaouais and later completed her doctorate (Psy.D) in Clinical Psychology at the same university. Most recently, she completed her master’s degree (M.I.T) in addiction intervention. Since 2017, she has been a registered psychologist with the Ordre des Psychologues du Québec (OPQ). More recently, she has become a registered member of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO) and is authorized to practice in the areas of clinical and forensic/correctional psychology.

Sandy Oziel

Dr. Sandra Oziel offers evidence-based assessments and treatments for various mental health issues, with a specialized focus on individuals in conflict with the law. With over ten years of experience, she has expertise in addressing concerns such as unusual and deviant sexual interests (paraphilias), hypersexuality, impulse control disorders, anger management, anxiety, depression, and psychotic spectrum disorders. In addition, Dr. Oziel conducts psychodiagnostic assessments and has extensive experience evaluating general, violent, and sexual reoffending, incorporating protective factors into her evaluations.

Dr. Oziel uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), an empirically-supported therapeutic approach. She also incorporates motivational interviewing, mindfulness and relaxation skills, acceptance and commitment strategies, and relapse prevention planning to offer a comprehensive treatment plan for her clients. She demonstrates warmth and compassion towards her clients and is mindful that many individuals seek psychological services during challenging times.

Dr. Oziel has received extensive training working with diverse clinical populations, including forensic patients at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and clients at Correctional Services of Canada Central District Parole and the Sexual Behaviours Clinic at CAMH. More recently, she has worked as a staff psychologist at the Ontario Correctional Institute, providing intake assessments, individual therapy, and group therapy for male offenders. Dr. Oziel currently works at one of the largest psychiatric hospitals in Canada, assessing and treating individuals with problematic sexual behaviours and urges.

Dr. Oziel obtained her MA and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) in 2016. Since 2017, she has been a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO), specializing in clinical, forensic, and correctional populations. Additionally, she is an active member of the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA).

Myriam is a registered social worker and psychotherapist who is fluently bilingual in both English and French. Her areas of expertise include substance use problems, problems related to mood (e.g., depression, bipolar), anxiety (e.g., social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic), anger management, self-esteem, relationship and/or interpersonal difficulties, and stress management.

Myriam’s primary focus in psychotherapy is to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment, while creating a strong therapeutic connection with her clients. In her practice, Myriam uses person-centered and solution-focused approaches as well as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Working collaboratively with clients and their families for a positive therapeutic journey is at the core of her practice and she is passionate about guiding clients and their families towards healing and achieving their goals.

In addition to her work in private practice, Myriam is a tenured professor at Cegep Heritage College in the Special Care Counselling Program. Prior to her current employment, Myriam provided clinical services to adults and young adults in a variety of therapeutic settings including a prison environment in New Kent, Virginia, a Forensic Program at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (ROMHC), and multiple community mental health agencies in Richmond, Virginia.

She completed her master’s degree in Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) in good standing. Myriam is also a registered member of the L’Odre des Travailleurs Sociaux et des Therapeutes Conjugaux et Familiaux du Quebec (OTSTCFQ).

Sean’s clinical training has largely focused on supporting individuals experiencing problems related to mood (i.e., depression and bipolar disorder), anxiety, substance use concerns and psychotic disorders (e.g., schizophrenia). He has significant experience working with individuals who have had contact with the criminal justice system and those living with severe and persistent forms of mental illness. He currently offers psychotherapy services to adolescent and adult clients. He also provides comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments to adults.

Sean’s approach to psychotherapy is client-centered, with an emphasis on creating a safe, nonjudgmental and respectful therapeutic environment. Sean works collaboratively with his clients to better understand the challenges they are facing, identify specific goals, and offer practical tools/strategies to enhance meaning and fulfillment in their lives. Though his approach to psychotherapy is individually tailored to meet his clients’ unique needs, Sean draws heavily on evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solutions Focused Therapy.

Sean has been in the field of Social Work for almost 20 years and is deeply committed to supporting and advocating for individuals struggling with mental health challenges. In addition to his work in private practice, Sean is currently employed on a full-time basis as a social worker in the Integrated Forensic Program at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (ROMHC). Prior to this, Sean provided social work services in the schizophrenia program as well as the substance use and concurrent disorders program at the ROMHC. He has also worked closely with youth and adults within the homeless community, supporting their families and assisting in group home settings and in local shelters.  In addition, Sean has worked with community agencies such as Catholic Family Services of Ottawa, offering group psycho-education for clients experiencing concerns related to domestic abuse, mental health, and concurrent disorders. 

Sean is a Registered Social Worker and holds a Masters of Social Work, as well as, a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Victoria.  In addition, he acquired a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Carleton University and a Diploma from Algonquin College in Police Foundations.

Emilie is a doctoral candidate in Clinical Psychology with specialized training and experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of psychological concerns. She has particular experience in the treatment of mood-related problems (depression, bipolar disorder), trauma and/or PTSD, anxiety, stress management, relational and interpersonal difficulties, emotion dysregulation, anger management, as well as personality and forensic-related issues.

Her therapeutic approach is integrative, flexible and grounded in evidence-based strategies to best address her clients’ unique needs and goals. Emilie frequently integrates components from the following treatment modalities: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).

Emilie prioritizes building a strong therapeutic alliance with clients, characterized by warmth, trust, and acceptance. Her approach emphasizes collaboration, viewing therapy as a joint effort between therapist and client to explore and navigate challenges. Guided by humanistic values, Emilie creates an environment where clients are encouraged to explore their experiences without judgment. Emilie also enjoys integrating humor to foster rapport, recognizing its therapeutic value in facilitating healing and growth.  

Emilie completed her Bachelor’s degree (Honours B.A) in Psychology with a minor in Criminology at the University of Ottawa in 2017. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree (Psy.D) in Clinical Psychology at the University of Québec in Trois-Rivières and has taken additional courses to obtain a Certificate in Forensic Psychology.  While Emilie is working towards completing her doctoral thesis, she has continued to offer psychological services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.

In addition to her work in private practice, Emilie is currently employed as a psychometrist in the Integrated Forensic Program at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre (ROMHC) where she provides psychological services to adult clients on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Prior to this, Emilie worked at Pierre-Janet Hospital (CISSSO) in the inpatient unit, the forensic unit and the outpatient program.
