Services

Psychotherapy (“Talk Therapy”)

We offer psychotherapy services (i.e., “talk therapy”), in both English and French to adolescents and adults experiencing a wide range of mental health concerns, relationship problems, and/or difficulties adjusting to challenges or stresses in life.

Psychotherapy often involves identifying unhelpful thoughts, emotions and behaviours that may be preventing one from moving forward and developing healthier, more adaptive ways of coping. Our approach to therapy is warm, respectful and non-judgmental. We focus on developing a safe and comfortable environment for you to begin to explore difficult thoughts and emotions, learn new coping strategies, and ultimately, feel better.

We offer psychotherapy services for a range of personal difficulties, life transitions and/or mental health concerns. These include but are not limited to:

  • Mood-related concerns (depression, bipolar disorder, grief/loss)
  • Anxiety (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks/disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobias)
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
  • Trauma and/or Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Psychosis and/or schizophrenia-spectrum disorders
  • Personality-related difficulties
  • Alcohol and/or substance use problems
  • Relationship and/or interpersonal difficulties
  • Self-esteem, self-growth and identity development
  • Social skill development

Psychological Assessment

We offer a range of psychological assessments to adult clients seeking clarification of their cognitive and/or mental health symptoms. Please contact us if you are hoping to receive more details on the nature and/or process of these assessments.

Mental health diagnostic and personality assessment

This type of assessment offers a comprehensive evaluation of a broad range of mental health and/or personality symptoms for the purpose of diagnostic clarification and/or treatment planning. This may include in-depth assessment of concerns related to mood, anxiety, OCD, trauma, alcohol/substance use, psychotic symptoms and/or personality functioning.

Neuropsychological assessment

Neuropsychological assessments evaluate various aspects of one’s cognitive functioning. This may include assessment of abilities related to attention/concentration, memory, problem solving, language/verbal skills, processing speed, reasoning, organizing, planning, and more.

Neuropsychological assessments are often used for the purpose of diagnostic clarification, to identify one’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and/or treatment planning. Conditions that may affect/impact one’s cognitive functioning include, but are not limited to, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, brain injury, as well as various forms of dementia.

Please note that we are currently unable to offer psychoeducational assessments for the purpose of clarifying concerns related to academic functioning.

Forensic psycholegal assessment

Psycholegal assessments assist in the evaluation of matters related to the intersection of psychology and the law. Adult clients requiring psycholegal assessments are typically referred by the court, legal counsel, or other third parties (e.g., OPP/RCMP, physicians, insurance companies, etc.).

Our clinic currently offers the following types of psycholegal assessments:

  • Mental health diagnostic and personality assessment
  • Forensic neuropsychological assessment
  • Psychopathy assessment
  • Malingering assessment
  • Violence and general risk assessment
  • Civil forensic assessment (e.g., fitness for duty, psychological injury, etc.)
Applied Behavioural Analysis

Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA)

We are pleased to offer behaviour therapy services that utilize principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), an approach to learning that increases the frequency of positive behaviours and reduces problematic ones. ABA is often used to teach skills that enhance safety and independence (e.g., home and workplace safety, parenting, self-advocacy, learning to create and follow a daily schedule, etc.) and/or to reduce harmful behaviours that are negatively affecting a person’s life (e.g., physical aggression or self-injurious behaviours).

When reducing problematic behaviours, an ABA therapist will focus on teaching adaptive behaviours that are more likely to get one’s needs met in a safe and practical manner. You may wish to visit the Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysts (ONTABA) website for more details on the many different applications of ABA.

We offer ABA services to adult clients experiencing the following concerns:

  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Intellectual and developmental disability
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
  • Acquired brain injuries
  • Dementia
  • Substance use disorders
  • Feeding and movement disorders

A symbol of resilience

The helix, with its spiral shape and sound underlying structure, is one of the most well-known symbols of resilience. Its form marries stability and adaptability, and can be found throughout nature (e.g., in plants, vines, shells), in the foundation of man-made objects (e.g., architecturally sound buildings) and even in our fingerprints and DNA.

The symbolism of the helix is captured in the elegant lines of the shell of the nautilus (a type of marine mollusk). As the nautilus grows and evolves, its spiral shell expands to accommodate and support its development. It is also seen in the roots of a plant that coil and twist around barriers in the soil to anchor it and ensure its survival.
